When Gordie greedily eats the cake meant for sharing, Grandpa Benton tells him a story about a king who eats too much cake and suffers from toothaches. The king sends his grandson, Oroonoko, on a dangerous mission to retrieve a miswak twig, nature’s toothbrush, from the home of the Goddess of War. Oroonoko challenges the goddess and loses, but is rewarded for his selflessness. The king receives his twig, but his greed costs him his grandson and ultimately his kingdom, helping Gordie learn the value of sharing.

Grandpa Benton
the Storyteller

A jolly retired architect and
aspiring fantasy book writer,
grandpa will jump at any
opportunity to tell a story. He
uses his love of story to teach.
Spinning fables about a young
Prince named Oroonoko in the
service of the Goddes of War,
Enyo, and his adventures across
ancient lands and through
kingdoms lost to time.

Gordie

As the youngest and most energetic of the Benton clan, he shares a love of stories and deserts with his grandpa. On this outing, Gordie learns the dangers of greed and the importance of limiting his intake of sweets through the tale of Oroonoko and the Goddess of War.

Prince Oroonko
Prince Oroonoko with his overly optimisticly approach to life is sent by the greedy king, his grandfather, to face the Goddess of War and retrieve a twig of the miswak tree. Opting not to fight, Oroonoko challenges the goddess to an all-or-nothing game of futball. If he wins she gives him
the twig, if he loses he forfeits his life to be forever her servant. He loses. As the Goddess of War’s new page, Oroonoko is sent to stir up war but instead ends up helping people he encounters.

Enyo the Goddess of War

The personification of conflict and competition, Enyo is actually pretty chill. Her fortress on the top of Mount Butana is jam-packed with luxuries where she spends most of her days relaxing. Her peace is continually disturbed by heroes seeking honor and glory. Many have challenged her and many have died, but when Oroonoko challenges her to a game she is intrigued by the idea and by this little warrior.
